 The way of the tears is the way of relief.

سَبيلُ الدُّموعِ سَبيلٌ مُريحْ
Transliteration: Sabīlu d-dumū‘i sabīlun murīḥ
English: The path of tears is a path of relief.

تنهَّدْ أيا صاحِ كي تستريحْ
Transliteration: Tanaḥḥad yā ṣāḥi kay tastarīḥ
English: Sigh, my friend, so that you may find rest.

وبُثَّ الدُّعاءَ الخفيَّ الصَّريحْ
Transliteration: Wa buththa d-du‘ā’a l-khafiyya ṣ-ṣarīḥ
English: Pour out your sincere, secret supplication.

يسعْكَ الفضاءُ الرَّحيبُ الفسيحْ
Transliteration: Yasa‘ka l-faḍā’u r-raḥību l-fasīḥ
English: The vast, open heavens will hold you.

Verse 1

فَبِاللهِ كَمْ تستطبُّ القُروحْ
Transliteration: Fa-billāhi kam tastatibbu l-qurūḥ
English: By Allah—how many wounds are healed.

ويبرأُ جُرحُ الكسيرِ الجريحْ
Transliteration: Wa yabra’u jurḥu l-kasīri l-jarīḥ
English: And the broken, wounded heart recovers.

وينشطُ ذاكَ السَّقيمُ العليلْ
Transliteration: Wa yanshaṭu dhāka s-saqīmu l-‘alīl
English: The sick regain strength and vitality.

وقد كانَ بالسُّقم دهرٌ طريحْ
Transliteration: Wa qad kāna bis-suqmi dahran ṭarīḥ
English: Though they once lay long in illness.

تقالُ العِثارُ العِظامُ بهِ
Transliteration: Tuqālu l-‘ithāru l-‘iẓāmu bihī
English: Through Him, even great sins are forgiven.

ويغدو الهوى ككبشٍ ذبيحْ
Transliteration: Wa yaghdū l-hawā ka-kabshin dhabīḥ
English: And base desires are slain like a sacrificed ram.

بِذِكرِ الإلهِ تطيبُ الحياةُ
Transliteration: Bi-dhikri l-ilāhi taṭību l-ḥayāt
English: Through the remembrance of God, life becomes sweet.

تُسَرُّ أَساريرُ وجهٍ صبيحْ
Transliteration: Tusarru asārīru wajhin ṣabīḥ
English: And the lines of a radiant face glow with joy.

Transliteration: Tanaḥḥa yā ḥuznu wāhjur fu’ādan
English: Step aside, O grief, and leave the heart.

توكَّلْ بِجدٍّ بعزمٍ فصيحْ
Transliteration: Tawakkal bi-jiddin bi-‘azmin faṣīḥ
English: Place your trust sincerely, with firm resolve.

فإنّي عَلِمتُ بأنَّكَ نَجوى
Transliteration: Fa-innī ‘alimtu bi-annaka najwā
English: For I have learned that you whisper in secrecy,

ولبسُ خبيثٍ مُضلٍّ قبيحْ
Transliteration: Wa lubsu khabīthin muḍillin qabīḥ
English: A vile, misleading disguise.

تبخترْ ترجَّلْ بصوتٍ وخيلٍ
Transliteration: Tabakhtar tarajjal bi-ṣawtin wa khaylin
English: Strut and rally with your voice and your forces—

فمالكَ في الأرضِ دربٌ صحيحْ
Transliteration: Fa mā laka fī l-arḍi darbun ṣaḥīḥ
English: You have no straight path upon this earth.

إلى اللهِ عُدنا وباللهِ لُذْنا
Transliteration: Ilā llāhi ‘udnā wa bi-llāhi ludhnā
English: To Allah we return, and in Allah we seek refuge.

ليُطْوى زمانٌ بئيسٌ شحيحْ
Transliteration: Li-yuṭwā zamānun ba’īs(un) shaḥīḥ
English: So a bleak, constricted era may be folded away.
